BACK TO SCHOOL
2nd Annual 8 to 8 Day

This 8/28 Day included began with the launch of a school supplies drive. The afternoon featured the Athletics Food Eating Competition faced off by West Orange Football, Orange Football, and Orange Volleyball teams; West Orange took the title, currently held by Orange Football. Throughout the afternoon MC/lyricist Anthony "Juggla" Minervino and DJ Alex Alcazar kept the event live with music and entertainment. The close of the day was held at Suzy Que's with free appetizers for all of 8 to 8 Barber Shop's guest list, and music by shop client Andre Davis.

This celebration of the holiday season was highlighted with wine tasting lead by Jerome Beazer, Certified Wine Maker, and catered by owners Charnelle Bain & Randie Lynn of Simply Elegant Events.

MOVEMBER "CLEAN SHAVE" 

November 1st kicked off the first-annual Movember (www.us.movember.org) campaign in West Orange, NJ launched off with 8 to 8 Barber Shop's ''Clean Shave'' event. The event included Mayor Robert Parisi, High School Principal Hayden Moore, Chief of Police James Abbott, local business owners, local organization leaders, community members, and everyone in between.

2013 BOARD OF EDUCATION ELECTIONS

3 Meet-the-candidates events were hosted for the 2013 West Orange Board of Education elections featuring: Sandra Mordecai, Mark Robertson, and Phil Orphanidis. Each candidate answered questions and discussed their platform and vision.

1st Annual 8 to 8 DAY

"8 to 8 Day" is an celebratory day that creates an opportunity for 8 to 8 Barber Shop to be (re) introduced to the members of West Orange while living out it’s mission to serve as a hub of the community. During this time, we especially want to highlight our local students, help get them prepared and excited for the upcoming school year. 

This day marked the start of the annual school supplies drive. West Orange and Orange High School football teams competed in pie, pizza, and sub eating contests for Champion title and free haircuts. A free raffle drawing was held that evening for all all those who "Liked" the 8 to 8 Barber Shop Facebook page. Food and prizes were sponsored by Supreme Bakery, Subway, and members of the West Orange business strip.

ART EXHIBITION

FANTASIES & FATHOMS

West Orange's own, emerging artists Paul Walcott & Tatiana Battle showcased their work in this collaborative exhibition. Guests experienced an intersection of Walcott's inspiration from Japanese Manga and Battle's affinity for feminine super-heroism.

A creative workshop was also held for youth to participate in a guided design session, led by the artists, highlighting the use of their most popular mediums: colored pencil, and ink. 

GRAND OPENING 2012

2 NORTHFIELD AVE., WEST ORANGE, NJ 07052

8 to 8 Barber Shop marked its first expansion milestone, opening the doors of its new location which allowed more barber/stylist chairs and expanded service offerings of massage therapy!

An official ribbon cutting was help with Mayor Parisi, followed by staff introductions. Guests enjoyed sample massages, giveaways, and refreshments prepared by local small business owners. 

COMIC BOOK SIGNING

MIGHTY MAGICAL MAJESTICS

Co-creators, A. Baraka Scott and Danielle Williams, lead discussions and signed books for their comic book, Mighty Majestics. Special presentations were provided by Glenn Weber Taiko Drums, and Way of the Tiger Martial Arts. Guests were welcomed to complementary sandwiches, drinks and pizza.

THE MIGHTY MAGICAL MAJESTICS is an action adventure tale about hip, young superheroes who discover their powers and their life's purpose through a family tragedy of global proportions.
